| A Quick History Of Ballet:
Ballet was first performed in Italy in the early 1600's - though I presume
probably not nude. In 1661, the first ballet school was opened in France.
It was started by Louis XIV, and only men were allowed to dance - I hope
that wasn't naked ballet :-( Women ballerinas first got involved in ballet dancing in 1681 but they did not look like the ballet dancers of today as because they wore, can you believe, ankle-length dresses! Throughout the early years of ballet, until at least 1789, the performers not only danced, but also recited poems and sang songs. The dance steps that were taught four hundred years ago in France are still used today and most of these steps still have their original French names. The five basic ballet positions were created by a French ballet teacher in the 1600's whose name was Beauchamps. These arm and leg positions helped the dancers to balance while still looking graceful.
